Immersed in the African bush, overlooking a watering hole frequented by game. Klaserie Sands River Camp is designed to allow you to get close to nature, while offering unrivalled privacy as well as comfortable and elegantly decorated interiors.
The main lodge boasts a rim flow pool and sun deck, overlooking the waterhole frequented by elephants, kudu, herds of impala and buffalo.
Expansive decks, stretched under Jackalberry trees, provide beautiful shade from the African sun and has proven to be the main attraction of the camp. It is here where guests will enjoy our specially selected South African wines and fine cuisine. The decks also provide the perfect setting for relaxing with a good book in one of our many comfortable daybeds and lounge areas.
You depart OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg at 6:45 am and heads towards Klaserie Sands River Camp. Arriving at the Lodge at around 14:00 pm you are checked into your rooms and have time to freshen up before your afternoon safari drive. After the drive you return to the lodge.
The day starts with an early wake-up call between 5:00 am and 5:30 am. Tea, coffee and rusks are enjoyed together before heading out at first light. While seeing big game is always exhilarating, there are many other smaller species that are also captivating, and birding enthusiasts will be delighted at the approximately 350 species of birds recorded on the reserve. Halfway through the game drive, there’s a stop for hot drinks and snacks, before returning to the lodge at around 9:00 am for a full breakfast. Throughout the day, it’s likely you will see wildlife around the lodge – nyala antelope and vervet monkeys are frequent visitors, though seeing some of the Big Five is also not uncommon.
At around 3:30 pm, everyone gathers for a decadent high tea, before heading out with your ranger and tracker for the afternoon game drive through the reserve. En route, you’ll stop for a sundowner drink and will have a chance to stretch your legs as you watch the sun set over the distant peaks of the Drakensberg mountains.
As darkness falls, the nocturnal animals of the bush come out. The skilled tracker will scan the landscape using a spotlight, which illuminates animals’ eyes. A variety of completely different species can be seen on the night drive back to the lodge. Arrival is at the lodge is usually around 7:00 pm, allowing time to freshen up before enjoying a sumptuous dinner.
The final day of your Safari will see you go on one last safari drive before breakfast is served. After breakfast there is time to pack before checking out. After check out you will be transferred to Eastgate Airport for your transfer by road to Johannesburg’s OR Tambo Airport.
